The More Things Change, the More They Stay the Same: Alabama 49 Tennessee 10

The More Things Change, the More They Stay the Same: Alabama 49 Tennessee 10

My 15-year-old daughter is entering the stage of life where her friends are beginning to do dumb, teenager things. I’m thankful that’s she’s open and honest with me about it, but it’s terrifying every time I hear a story of a kid she knows who came to school high or is having sex. It’s brutal.

She’s told me several times that she doesn’t want anything to do with the things she sees the other kids doing, and she was surprised when I said I understood where she was coming from.

“But things are so different than when you were a kid?”

“Yeah, they are. But so much stays the same. It’s just in a different context.”

Get the Most from College Football, Week 5

Here’s what you need to know to get above the noise and the get the most from your college football Saturday.

Maryland vs Penn State, Noon Big Ten Network

Don’t waste your time with Texas vs Oklahoma. Seriously. It’s the game to save Bob Stoops and Charlie Strong’s jobs (which is absurd and incredibly entitled), and neither team will be relevant in the national title race at the end of the season.

Instead, check out the surprising Terrapins try to cement themselves as a legit team this season in the Big 10 as they try to knock of Penn State at home. This should be, as always, a great viewing experience to see the atmosphere at State College. Penn State fans are as obnoxious as anyone, but they know how to support their team. Even though they would like to say they invented football, they did invent some great campus traditions like the “white out”. No matter how you feel, this will be a fun game to watch. [Read more…]

InkSports 52 The Waiting is the Hardest Part: The Vols Finally Beat Florida

As lifelong Tennesseans, the Florida win was like a Christmas dinner that you savor hours after it ends. Sports can’t make you happy or fulfilled, but it can make you happy in a moment where everything comes together. Where years of waiting and frustration payoff into one perfect win.

That was Tennessee’s win over Florida. There’s so much to break down and analyze and understand, but the reality is the lasting impact will be what it means for the fans who remember 2004 and have felt the sting of loss year after year. Our boy Lane worked the press box for this one, and said you cant imagine how loud it was standing on the sideline. [Read more…]
